14.03.2003 - In May 2000 MAN Turbo booked an order for two process-gas screw compressor units for a new Styrene Monomer plant, based on the Fina / Badger SM process.

Each of the screw compressor units are build as a packaged unit. One of the units is driven by an electric motor, the other by a two-stage backpressure steam turbine. As the process gas contains components which tend to polymerise at higher temperatures, the screw compressors are equipped with liquid injection to limit the gas discharge temperature at 150° C.

As a positive displacement compressor the screw compressor is ideal for handling the relatively light hydrogen-mixed gas. Also the applicable variation in the gas composition has nearly no effect on the screw compressor performance. Due to the cooling effect produced by liquid injection, the pressure ratio of nearly 7 will be handled in one single stage.
