06.06.2003 - In 2002, MAN Turbo secured an order via an engineering company to deliver centrifugal compressors for a propane tank storage farm in Qatar. The five machinery trains comprise two centrifugal compressors for cooling purposes and three centrifugal compressors for reliquefying propane. The plant is equipped with a suitable operating and pollutant emission protection system. Commissioning is scheduled for 2004.

The compressors are being installed in a plant close to the port for storing propane prior to export of the gas. Downstream of the plant is a gas processing installation. One of the centrifugal compressors designated for cooling purposes will be used as a standby option for the compressor that is in operation. Of the three compressors used for propane reliquefaction, two will operate in parallel while the third is envisaged as a standby. The propane reliquefaction compressors transport the propane gas from the storage facility back via a series of condensers, in which the gas is liquefied. In this process, the condensers are cooled by one of the two compressors working with propane gas.

By opting for single-casing compressors, the customer is reducing his investment costs. At the same time, the horizontally split casings of the centrifugal compressors make any maintenance required easier to carry out. The compressors are being delivered as a “single source solution” complete with all auxiliary and protection systems.
